Japan Photo Diary

After a 16 hour flight and 24 hours in Hong Kong we were on to the first major destination of our honeymoon - Tokyo! While I wasn't the most excited for this city, a recovering vegan in a city where it's main food is fish, it truly surprised me.

Tokyo was a whirlwind; bright lights, so many people, crazy fashion, and some interesting food choices (especially from an 18 year vegetarian!). From the gorgeous landscaped Emperial Gardens to the winding thin corridors of the Golden Gai District there was always something to look at, and something to eat or drink. A few notable mentions includes the garden sushi tasting at Yakumo Saryo (and yes, I actually ate fish and it was actually pretty good!), cocktails at Bar Four Seasons or, for something more inventive, Gen Yamamoto, whose craft cocktails blew us out of the water.

After five days in Tokyo we took the bullet train (!!) south to Kyoto, where we were greeted with a much more tranquil atmosphere that kept up with us for the remainder of our time. We explored the city, ventured south to Nara's infamous deer park and temples, and ofcourse, hiked the thousands of steps beneath the thousands of shinto gates of Fushimi Inari. Though long and exhausting, on our way don we met the shrine's resident cats, and enjoyed the local bamboo forest.

Kyoto was a fall dream, actually having trees to turn leaves and nature to explore.

Needless to say, Japan was a beautiful, BEAUTIFUL place. If I could I would go back and just explore more; people watch, and take more photos! I feel like I took so many but at the same time didn't take enough.
