Welcome, my loyal followers (or random drive-by commenter who will probably just say something sweet about the photo and move on). I introduce you to a new [semi] feature on QSS entitled, you guessed it, Lessons on Blogging. Now, I’ve been a blogger for 6 1/2 years now. Six and a half YEARS. Holy Toledo that’s a long time. I’d like to say it’s been so wonderful, I’ve grown some much and have amassed such a following that I now am living the dream but let’s not be fake here. It’s been hard. I’ve given up a few times (read: long breaks where I cry over how shitty I am as a blogger, nobody likes me blah blah blah in my yoga pants and cardboardeaux). Miraculously, though, I’m still here, in front of a computer, writing to you all and sharing tidbits of my life. This new feature will showcase some things that I’ve learned along the way. While I’m in no way a super famous blogger with tons of credibility, I’ve still been doing this for years and have plenty of knowledge to share (as well as plenty to learn!).
For this inaugural lesson I want to talk about readers. Recently I’ve wondered why I blog; who am I blogging for? Generally, I try to generate leads to my blog by reading other blogs, leaving comments on other blogs, and trying to interact with other bloggers both online and in person. After doing some research about where my readers are actually coming from I’ve learned a lot. Most of my readers are not bloggers. The people reading this blog for inspiration are friends on Facebook, friends in real life, family members. The next biggest generation of leads? Search engines. People are coming to my blog (and yours too!) from Google and PinTerest searches where they’ve typed in a magic set of letters and words and ended up on your page (this is called SEO and I’ll do a lovely post on that later). THEN come the other bloggers, leaving their comments to generate leads back to themselves with ideals of their own personal growth.
That being said I’m trying to take on a new mentality. I’m going to post what I want, when I want (because nobody is sitting there typing QueSeraSahra in every day looking for a new post) and hope that I inspire someone at home, on Instagram, or on PinTerest to do something that they may not normally, to do something they may not have seen because they don’t follow or read a slew of hundreds of blogs because they themselves are not a blogger. I will not fret about comments or how many other bloggers see me. This is for YOU.
My loyal readers, this is my promise to you. You will continue to receive curated content by me. It may not be the most unique, or the most “popular”, but it will inspire you (I hope) to try something new; a new beauty product, a new nail design, a new accessory style, a cool new DIY, or a new mentality.
